When I worked at McDonald's, we had to throw it away. You are not allowed to take it home with you. I personally, think it is stupid to throw away perfectly good food but it is their policy. We couldn't even give it to the homeless shelter.

It depends on the individual restaurant. And - the type of food.
For example - a buffet should throw away the food cooked, and not used, for that day.
Some establishment DO let the employees take this type of food, home.
Lots of places have food that is already frozen - and which stays frozen until it is needed for an order. Thus - there is no waste that day.
It depends on what sort of food industry it is .. as to whether they throw the food out .. or take it home.

Food should really be thrown out at the end of the night if it has already been cooked or heated. Employees shouldn't be allowed to take stuff home because then it is possible they could make more of the items they want to take home and then food cost goes up. Most restaurants should be efficient enough to know how much they use each day so they shouldn't have too much left at the end of the night.

It all depends on what the food that is left over is...some restaurants will take it home while others put it in small containers and freeze/refrigerate it.It all depends on the lifespan and need of the food.Ex. KFC will throw away there leftover bisquits, while the coleslaw, gravy etc. are put in the fridge, the chicken will get stripped into little pieces for chicken pot pie..yp chicken pot pie is old leftover chicken lol...the only items at kfc you may take home at the end of the night are biscuits, cookies, potato wedges etc. they usually dont allow the bigger items like chicken go home due to the need of them for chicken pot pies..every restaurant has there different rules thou...

A while back, where we lived before, our next door neighbor worked at KFC. Two or three times a week she brought home leftover food. If there was enough, she'd share it with us. She said all the employees were allowed to take home the leftover food so it wouldn't go to waste.

Usually they throw it out, it's called waste and it counts against them so they try their hardest not to have any. I've known pizza places to take the leftovers to homeless shelters as well as some fast food restaurants. I feel all restaurants should do that myself, but whatever their policy is I suppose.

Depends on the restaurant I suppose. Some places throw out leftovers, some donate to shelters, some use previously prepared chicken/fish. etc in next days soups and in some cases restaurants will sell their leftovers to pig farmers, but I think that is not allowed anymore.

I think they reuse whatever they can and throw out the rest. There probably is not a whole lot to take care of because they dont make as much when they are closing in a short time.
