The secret of writing a good metaphor poem or for writing about anything is to write about something that really interests you and that you know well. Here is a sample metaphor poem - it is about butterflies.
I am as light as feathers
Floating like paper bags in the air
As beautiful as dancing fairies
As graceful as a prima ballerina
Sometimes I am as blue as tear drops
Or as yellow as the sun
I love flowers swaying in the breeze
I am a butterfly
