If you think that is too much to ask for then it is. You're only worth how much you think you are work - I would just be careful since you've only been employed there three months about asking for such a high raise perhap ask for .50 this time and at the next review request a 1.50 raise if your review this time goes well. I personally wouldn't jump the gun at the risk of coming off as needy let them get to know you first and the work you can do 3 months is not a whole lot of time. Of course the worst thing they can do is say no.

You can ask for whatever you want, that doesn't mean you will get it. This is only 3 monthes into it. If you took less than you originally asked for, I don't think asking for a dollar is bad.
That said, I have a lot of experience at what I do, I was not happy with my raise last year, but stuck it out and got a dollar this year. I live in a small town and wages are probably more nearer to the cities. Be prepared to defend your worth. What have you learned to make yourself worth more than you were 3 mo ago? What do you intend to master in the next 6 months? That kind of thing. I think cross training is a very good thing. Learn all you can .

You yourself have agreed that asking a raise of $1.5 is a bit much to ask for. If that is the case, how do you expect your employer to agree or you think you are the employer and in such situation examint how you will react

There is another aspect to it. Even you can ask for the moon so far you can justify or your employer is so convinced, in reality you deserve much more due to your contribution to the company.

Hence there is no thumb rule. The way you sow so you reap. All the best

Consider what you are actually worth to the company. What have they invested in you? What have you returned or produced for the company? As long as you are not belligerent or way out there, asking for a little more won't hurt. Asking for a lot more is another story. The worst that can happen is that you are turned down or not given a raise. The best is that you might get it as long as it is reasonable.
