Yes, the controller for PS2 will work for Guitar Hero III, but only with the PS2 version of Guitar Hero.
If your getting the PS3 version you simply just have to buy a USB cord and just hook it up to your PS3, then plug in the controller into that port. Then your rockin'.

yeah a PS2 guitar if not you have to buy the PS3 version with the guitar i think

I think you can for the PS2 version, but to play on the PS3 I think you need the PS3 guitar.
