I know WHY, like the history behind it and all that, but why does it persist. China is communist and we do business with them. Even when Hurricane Katrina came and hit New Orleans, Cuba offered additional help and doctors and the U.S. turned it down. It's like get the "F" over it, quit acting like a baby and mend things. Plus schools brainwash students making them think Cuba is such a harsh place and it's a country that needs help which is nonsense. I'm not Cuban but I just think it's rediculous. Does anyone have anything to say about it, I don't know it just makes me so angry.

Most Americans are stupid. Though the constitution calls for free speech and freedom of ideas, the AMerican people have declared war on socialism or communism in the US or any other country. Their paranoia is not shared by Europe or most other countries. The main cause of this paranoia is the inability most Americans have of separating the concepts of democracy and capitalism. Capitalism, not democracy, is the driving force behind American society. If necessary, democracy must be sacrificed to preserve capitalism, both here in the US and overseas.

In his film, "Sicko," Michael Moore suggested it's because a dictator we liked was replaced with a dictator we don't like. There are lots of evil dictators in the world, some worse than Castro, and we don't have the same almost reflexive hatred toward them. I mean, Saudi Arabia, anyone? The Bush family and the ruling Saudi family are tighter than Ann Coulter's miniskirts. And the U.S. was friends with Saddam Hussein before they were enemies.

As for the decades-long grudge, it could be Bay of Pigs, it could be that other dictators don't epitomize communism the way Castro does, or it could be that Cuba is 90 miles south of the Florida Keys. Had Elian Gonzalez been from any other country, there would never have been this whole national crisis and dickering over whether he should stay with family in Miami or go back to his FATHER in Cuba; he would have been sent back home at the first opportunity.

Fidel Castro calls himself a communist, and that's a terrible buggaboo. Our policy toward Cuba makes no sense at all. We trade and have normal relations with communist Vietnam and communist China. China is certainly more of a threat militarily and economically.
I say open trade and let Americans visit Cuba like the Canadians do.

I think it has something to do with Castro and a box of cigars, its been going on a long time now and they should probobly work it out. I know a few people who have been to Cuba and they said it was a pretty nice Country.

Politics in Florida -electoral votes- big Cuban exile population-weak and cowardly politicians. easier to hate, than to reconcile.

When Castro is dead and the Cuban government turns over all of the island property it wrongfully confiscated from Americans...maybe then we can consider lifting the sanctions

And if they REALLY want to impress us that they are sincere, they should gift the military facility in Guantanamo to the US, permanently...right now it is only under a lease
