Stopped smoking. Am 73 now, and started smoking at the behest of my older brother and our peers.

I was about 11 yrs. old, and our family had "moved to the farm", following my father's service in the navy during world war II. He told us because of what he had experienced in the navy, that he had decided we were going to move to Arkansas, and henceforth would become farmers.

I don't know what he experienced, but this was the explanation given for our changing from an urban lifestyle, to that of an agrarian one.

It was quit a shock for us children. There were 4 of us, but being children it didn't take a very long time to adjust.

The only regret I have, is that I became hooked on tobacco. All us boys did, including my brother at this very early age.

So that I grew up thru adolescence with tobacco as a constant companion. And though I have tried to quit numerous times - succeeded once for six months - I've always resumed its use.

Why aren't you busy making that(quiting)happen right now? Because I perceive it as hopeless, given my experience in attempting to quit.

But you know, there are worse addictions, and I consider myself lucky, not to have any of those: hard drugs, alcohol, etc.

So, don't feel sorry for me. I don't.
