I live here. North east Vegas is scary! The north side after the strip, just passed the freeway. A good 5 miles around the strip. Martin Luther king st is bad!!! I will drive around that street!!! The west side is the nicest.

If you are just a tourist you really don't need to know all the unsafe spots of Las Vegas. But as a tourist be careful when you go to the Fremont Street Experience and around the Stratosphere Hotel/Casino. Just stay in the tourist area of Fremont Street Experience, don't walk out of it no matter what time of the day. Plan to take a taxi back to your hotel from there. And behind the Statosphere is called The Naked City, it's really dangerous. It has nothing to do with Strip clubs, those are on Industrial or Frank Sinatra Dr and Dean Martin Dr.

As far as the rest of the city, we have bad spots like every other city. I would stay away from Martin Luther King Blvd. west of the strip, any downtown area (i.e. around the Fremont Street Experience) and North Las Vegas which is a seperate city than Las Vegas. Also, avoid Nellis, Lamb, Bonanza any of those streets east of Las Vegas Blvd and Main St.

In short you if you explore the city you will know when you are in a bad area or not. Las Vegas Metro Police has a website that shows crime, link is listed if you are interested.

Okay most roads. Don't stop in dimly lit areas, back alleys, side alleys, off the beaten path. Keep doors locked as you are driving. Check for blindspots, and pedestrians looking for an easy lawsuit. They know you do not see them and will step out at last minute, drive in middle lane not near sidewalk lane.

Don't get caught up in a crowd, pick pocket alert! Takes one bump or brush up against you. You think nothing of it, til you find whats missing. Keep your space. Don't crowd in.

stay off of the back or side streets at night when on foot.
Especially just a block or two from Fremont.
The monorail late at night can also be full of unsavory types too.

the strip is fairly safe, but immediate surrounding area around it is not. the safest area in vegas is the northwest area around summerlin. north las vegas isnt the best either.....
