I am shocked every time I sign on at the amount of incorrect spellings and horrible grammar! Good god people, use your spell check and re-read what you write. Some of it I can't even figure out what the question is, or I get so wrapped up in the grammar mistakes that I can't focus on the subject. I just want to tell them to forget whatever the problem is and GO BACK TO SCHOOL!

I'm not mystified in the least. People today do not read, and that's how you learn to spell. If you never SEE the word, you'll never learn to spell it, and that's what reading did for previous generations. I'm not sure what to do to get people to read more, or to understand that clarity in spelling really does matter; it seems that if people don't like it, or if it doesn't impact their wallets, they simply don't care. I think it's a shame that so many people don't see what they're missing by getting all their entertainment through video Pablum.

As the other answerer said, some people can not spell because they do not read.

Others have dyslexia, or dysgraphia, which prevents them from seeing the letters properly. It reflects badly on an able person who can not spell; it makes us think he/she is stupid.

But it isn't right to ridicule people who suffer from dyslexia. So it's better to be tolerant than judgmental.

A lot of people do it intentionally (especially online). Usually out of immaturity.
