Every time I make a cut, the edges come out black, and often there's some smoke. Pushing the wood through quickly lessens the problem, but it never really goes away. Should I have the blade sharpened, replace it, or is there possibly some other problem?

a few things, first is the fence parallel with the blade?hows the run out of the arbor? did you tune the saw before using?is the blade facing the right direction? all of these can cause burning.finally what kind of wood are you cutting? some will burn if the feed rate is wrong.

Feed the wood slower...the kerf of the blade should be no more than just below the gutter between the teeth. You may have a build up of pitch on the teeth. Use Mineral Spirits to clean. Make sure the blade isn't warped, and if all this fails...have it sharpened. I agree 1000% on the carbide teeth part as well.

Hello there,

Yes odds are your blad is dull or the tooth set is off. The blade is probably doing a little more rubbing on the wood than it should be. Deffinition of Set--The set of the blade is the tooth bend away from the backing and the angle of the tooth face in relation to the backing. Set provides clearance for the blade body and teeth, but they increase the amount of material removed. Raker set alternates right-set, left-set, and unset teeth. Combination sets follow each unset tooth with teeth set in a left, right, left, right pattern.
If it is a really expensive blade you may look into having it sharpened. Or if its more affordable just replace it. I hope this helped a little. Good luck to you!

If it is black on both sides it is the blade if it is only black on one side it could be something is crooked. First thing to try is replace or sharpen the blade. If this doesn't fix the problem check the blade position to the guide this should be a right angle. Blades need sharpened or replaced more often if you are cutting hardwood.
Good luck

It could be dull (most likely) or it could have a lot of sap on it that is gumming up as it goes through the wood. Have it sharpened or replace it. It is not going to heal itself.

Yes it is dull. You can buy a carbide tipped blade for what it cost to have one sharpened.i have been a woodworker for 40 years.

Sounds to me that your blade is not parralell with the table and or with the fence.Invest in some good measuring tools to keep your saw "tuned up"
