i think that in most cases it is a good humane way to end an animals life. i wish that it were legal for people because i know that there are certain situations where i would wish to be put out of my misery. i was with my mom when she died and she was begging for death. i dont ever want to go through that.

I respect many views that speak to "quality of life" and things of this sort; because of this, I consider it a highly personal issue best discussed when the issue is merely hypothetical (and specified clearly in "living will" form). That said, I tend to claw and scratch at every hope for life without much consideration to its quality, therefore I don't usually consider euthanasia a viable option. And in cases where the decision could be made on grounds of genetic anomalies or gender preferences, I am vehemently opposed to it...(though since this is not a common practice in this country, my opinion counts for very little). Good question.

I believe in hospice care, where the main goal is to provide comfort and dignity in dying. That's not exactly ending life, but sometimes in order to provide comfort you give the person a whole lot of morphine. But not a super high dose to stop the heart from beating... just lots of doses that might perhaps speed up the dying process. I do believe in taking people off respirators and withholding food and water if they're in a coma and comfortable. I don't believe in injecting them with a deadly substance to kill them quickly.
Of course, it's really easy for me to judge since I'm not in the situation. I'm sure if I were in a specific situation I might change my mind.

I have written many a paper supporting physician assisted suicide for the terminally ill. I wouldn't want to have to live if restrained to a bed and constantly in pain.

It's a humane way to end the suffering of dogs, cats, and other domestic animals when they get old or suffer from painful diseases. However, when used on humans, it's nothing but a fancy name for murder.

i think we should have the right to die and end our suffering if we are terminally ill. i do not think dr Kevorkian was in the wrong for helping with assisted suicides.
