Have you ever said something inelegant to a person you greatly admire, not knowing how much you would hurt that person? Well, I have. How do I get that person to believe the sincerity of my apology?

You already made that person believe the sincerity of your apology and the absence of bad intentions by posting this question.

I think we are in a similar situation, Dear...

An apology is a sincere and an intimate matter itself. It requires great effort to ask for one.

A true friend doesn't let the other one suffer with the shame of an action which is done without a bad intention.

Did you consider the fact that maybe this person doesn't deserve your admiration if he/she is doubting the sincerity of your apology?

speak to this person privately if you can. make your apology simple and don't try to justify what you said, mention how terrible you feel about it and wish to be forgiven so that you can begin to feel good about yourself again. only write a contrite note if you can't see them in person or else it will be viewed as a coward's way out.

Well if you are sorry about doing watever to that person than say sorry. Example:

John I'm really sorry..I didn't mean to insult your sister. I was just..really caught up in wanting you to like me like that I didn't bother to think abut your feelings...

something like that
make sure you explaing yourself with feeling and if that person gets really upset than that day act depressed so that they know that your really worrying about this. You should be worrying anyway
