In biology, a species is one of the basic units of biological classification. A species is often defined as a group of organisms capable of interbreeding and producing fertile offspring. While in many cases this definition is adequate, more precise or differing measures are often used, such as based on similarity of DNA or on the presence of specific locally-adapted traits.

When a lion and tiger are interbred, their offsprings are sterile and cannot produce further offspring when mated with a creature of the same type (linger with linge)

This could be an example for biological species concept.

Whats a liger? The cubs would have to come out smaller than the adults since one adult gave birth to them.

Are ligers even fertile? Many hybrids aren't.

Depends on the particular DNA of the adults.
