This first quarter of school I've failed one of my classes. I'm usually the type of person that gets all A's and sometimes B's. But my sophmore year in high school....went straight down hill. I want to focus and get straight A's the next quarter but I feel like I'm such a failure and dissapointment and it's just hard to concentrate and focus, knowing that it's too late to fix anything....at this pace, my future would not look bright and that I won't get into a good college because my grades are suffering and it's too late? I'm feeling really stressed out, please help.

The most positive thing about your post is that you recognize that "something" has slipped. But you seem to not really know what has gone happened to cause this lack of focus and discipline that used to come naturally to you. But you are anxious and a little depressed about this turn of events.

If you were my child, then I would want to get you some counseling. Doing that would be a really "grown up" solution, and mature choice. It would mean that you are willing to take care of yourself.

You need some guidance for a year or two. Start by sharing your troubles with either your school guidance counselor, or your parents.

Remember, it's a good thing to ask for a hand. Most young people who get into this bind, just latch on to other peers, and drown their anxiety in "acting out" behaviors. But you are asking for guidance. That is really cool.

Well ,, your right ,, you are starting from less then zerow , in that,,, without knowing what went on in the first quarter the second quarter will be twice as tough ,on the other hand you are bright ,and may be able to cetch up faster then some of us other slower movers , who if we don't get that first quarter were lost , keep plucking away,, inch by inch the mile gets covered ,and your smart enough to know that there are more feet in a mile then just yours and mine ,,

As a senior in high school, I can totally relate to what you're feeling. But let me tell you that you'll regret it so much if you continue to let yourself go downhill. Instead of feeling so bad about your grades that you completely let everything decay, identify what gave you trouble and fix the problem. If it helps, get someone to tutor you whether it be in the subjects you need help in or just in time management and organization. Just because you had one bad term that doesn't mean you're doomed for college. Colleges want to see that you're constantly improving so if you can solve whatever problems you're having, that will look good to colleges...

don't stress yourself too much. you can succeed if you chose to succeed. your future is in your hands, you have to work on it. how do you describe a good college. does that mean private and famous universities? what matter is to get a good education and take up a course in college that you really wanted. sometimes, we stumble along the way and that's happening to you right now but we know how to pick up ourselves and continue... move on with the journey.

you can do it. trust and believe in yourself.
