Clinton did lots of good things...he increased the legal speed limit to 65 mph. Lowered taxes and the economy was doing much better then how it's doing now that Bush is on. Clinton was a great president! No matter what he did on his private time...I mean...who on earth would reject a bj? I wouldn't!

Not only did he balance the budget , but he created a surplus . He pardoned the debts of alot of 3rd world countries . He helped to establish peace in the middle east . (Which was consequently destroyed by our current president .) I don't care what happened in his personal life . He was the greatest president in my lifetime so far . I think that years from now the history books will say the same thing .

Like the rest of the answerers, I have my own partisan opinion. But I'll try not to just take my shots at the other side.

"Important" things could be BOTH positive and negative -- and Clinton did some of each

Some positives:
- pro-trade (good for U.S. economy) -- pushed for the ratification of the NAFTA treaty negotiated under the previous President ... mostly with the help of Republican legislators (One of Al Gore's betters moments was his defense of NAFTA against ).

- after vetoing it several times, finally signed the Republican Congress's Welfare Reform bill (which has been VERY successful at moving welfare recipients into productive jobs).... done at the advice of Dick Morris, as part of his re-election bid, and likely helped that effort a lot, but no matter, it was the RIGHT thing to do

-after an early tax hike, with the help of a Republican Congress he avoided many more and went along with a number of budget cuts that helped balance the federal budget (His biggest economic successes were in NOT doing things to "mess up" what was going well, which was difficult since most of his party wanted to do hike taxes, etc., etc)

Some negatives:
- backed out of Somalia in a way that encouraged enemies (like Osama bin Laden) to think we would easily by cowed

- vacillated about active response to terrorist attacks (from first Trade Center attack to the U.S.S. Cole)... treated them as simply "criminal" acts (not acts of war); his Dept of Justice added many bricks to the "wall" between domestic and international intelligence (FBI, CIA) making it difficult for evidence of terrorist plots EVER to get to the people who could act on them

- allowed a treaty (negotiated with Jimmy Carter's help) that, with little oversight, made it easy for North Korea to violate and to obtain nuclear weapons

- environmental policy concerning forests - went along with "green groups" that fought thinning of forests, even cleaning out dead trees... allowing huge increase in fuel for catastrophic fires

- led a Presidency filled with scandals, including a number of personal ones... including a lot of talk about OTHERS using the "politics of personal destruction" while he and his close supporters themselves actively smeared those who raised claims against him (or appeared ready to do so)
