Hi :)
Hermit crabs are relatively easy to take care of as long as they have the right level of humidity and temperature.
A good humidity level is between 75 and 85%(this can be measured with a hydometer. And for temperature in farenheit, around 75-80F. Humidity is vital, as hermit crabs breathe through modified gills and as hermit crabs are tropical creatures and unable to maintain warmth as mammals do, a warm crabitat is best.
For a 10 gallon tank here's a short list of how much space a hermit crab needs(but please bear in mind that they grow)-
How much space should each of your crabs have in a tank?*
Jumbo - 5 gallons each
Large - 4 gallons each
Med. - 3 gallons each
Small - 2 gallons each
Teeny/micro - 1 gallon each
Hermit crabs need both dechlorinated fresh and salt water, but never use table salt(anti-caking agents are harmful), a marine quality salt from a pet-store is ideal.
With feeding, I feed my hermit crabs fresh food(about half a cup full) in the early evening, as because they are mainly nocturnal creatures, are most active at night.
They are scavengers by nature and will eat just about anything, but in captivity a good diet will include fresh fruits and vegetables, protein(chicken, fish, beef, shrimp, etc), calcium(cuttlebone,egg-shells), grains, other plant material and commercial foods(free from copper sulfates and ethoxyquin).
For a more comprehensive list, I highly recommend-

When you go out of town for more than a couple of days, it would be worthwhile to organise for a trusted friend or family member to take care of them. All that's really needed is the food and water changed(it's a great help if you pre-prepare food and place in the fridge).
