even though i dont like him, id say Ovechkin...no question hes the best skater, but is he the fastest?
Rico Fata was fast when he was good...Sami Kapenen was a demon...what do you all think?

Ovechkin is a good skater, not a great skater, and far from being the best in the league.
Like others here - I missed the memo of Rico Fata as well. he's so good he has to play in Europe now.
The fastest skater in the NHL is Andy McDonald of Anaheim. he won the skills competition at the 2007 All-Star game and in 2004 and 2006, he the fastest time among all the team competitions. So for three years in a row he's been the fastest.
However, fast does not mean good. And McDonald is a so-so skater who needs to improve his skating in traffic immensely.

patty marleau...and torrey Mitchell on the sharks. Mitchell's a fast guy, he just skates so fast that he doesn't really know what to do with the puck. But if you watch a sharks game, keep an eye out for him. Ron Wilson went on about him at the very beginning of the season.

Ovechkin is fast..but i think Ryan Getzlaf is faster then him. Skating backwards i definitely say that Brian Campbell is the fastest.

Afinegenov, maybe. The All-Star competition is a bit misleading, since only All-Star invitees compete in that. Kapenan still has some wheels.

Gaborik. Fata is really fast however he stinks. Jason Chimaera is also really fast.
