I'm a firm believer in Rubbing Alcohol. It's not a solvent, it's dirt cheap (less than $1.00 a bottle), and dries quickly. Note: when cleaning a laptop screen, apply the fluid to the cloth FIRST and don't allow drips to enter the case plastic around the bottom or side edges of the screen.

Also, be gentle: it's better to have a fleck of dried something than a dead pixel. The dried something will eventually fall off, the dead pixel is gone forever.

Ordinary dish soap and water on a DAMP soft cotton cloth.

It's better to go over the screen lightly several times, than one or two times with heavy pressure.

Don't use Windex, and don't allow water (moisture) to run down the screen and get into the monitor.

Water and a soft cloth is ideal.

Alternatively, you can use the "Monitor Wipes" that some companies sell.

Avoid any cleaners with solvents in them such as Windex. The solvents can dry and discolor LCD panels with repeated use.

If it is a tough stain or something, then you can use Windex sparingly.
