Yes very seriously. It fades and cracks.

Didn't you ever see that ad by a paint company showing how they paint lots of boards with all their paint types and colors and then leave them out in the sunshine to see how long they survive? Their point was that their paint lasts longer than their competitors.

Yes very much so, I believe it fades the pigments, breaks down the binders, etc. Paint has gotten much better though, I remember reading that in the 50's, car paints would only be good for about 5 years before they were completely changed...say from red to pink. The switch from Lacquers helped a lot, Lacquers were also faded out because of a pollution factor if I remember...

Sunlight degrades all paints over time. It's a chemical reaction that breaks down the binders in the paint and literally turns it into a dingy powder-like coating that easily rubs or brushes off, leaving behind an unsightly surface that has also lost it's water-resistance and which, if not properly treated, will continue to weather and look worse and worse - and will eventually be irreparably damaged by water.

The suns UV rays tend to fade colors that are exposed to high amounts of it. This is why things like shingles and vinyl siding are slightly discolored.

Sure. The sun dries and cracks it. It bleaches the color out of it over time.
