Both India and China were ancient civilizations that fell behind and suffered defeats at the hands of the West in the modern era. Both have huge populations (each around one billion) living in relative poverty compared to Europe and North America. India has better natural conditions, mostly flat land and facing the sea on both sides, while China has large portions of unusable land in the forms of deserts and mountains and a relative short coastline (for its area). India has been a full democracy (by Western standards) for the past fifty years, while in China it is not known when democracy will arrive. However, India is falling further behind China economically.
Up to the late 1970s, China and India's economies were comparable. Since then, as the article shows, China is doing a better job of bettering the lives of its citizens. India is leading in computer software but in almost everything else China is advancing more rapidly. This raises some interesting questions: Why cannot a democracy beat a communist regime? (Note the Western standard says that economic and political freedoms go together--if you want economic prosperity you have to have a liberal political system... or that's what the West is telling Russia and Eastern Europe.) Is it due to culture factors? Did the "Cultural Revolution" in late 1960s and early 1970s at the costs of millions of lives under the communists make it easier for today's China to break with the past and to take off, noting in India some have blamed traditions for blocking progress? Which is a better model for Third World countries to follow in development and modernization? Interestingly, the article does not make note of the factor that China has a Taiwan and a HongKong which significantly aid developments in the mainland, something India does not have

Due to lack of pride and self-discipline.
We stand divided on many fronts for various reasons:languages,customs.. though we have a common culture.
But in the name of secularism our culture is being eroded and pushed back and to feel proud about our culture has become a matter of ridicule..
And for democracy to succeed we must be disciplined. We were on the road till Indira Gandhi took over.Though she was a dynamic leader she deviated from the path, for selfishness, corruption and favouritism to take over India..
We suffer from floods in some areas and from drought in other areas at the same time even 60 years after independence.
The difference between the rich and poor is only widening with colossal wastage of food and resources against people starving for want of a square meal a day.
We are unable to make both these ends meet. The politicians are the culprits. They reared their head from the time of Indira Gandhi's rule when she talked of conscience and split the Congress first and the country subsequently.

There may be 3 main factors to look at:
1) The Chinese communist system is more centralized than a democratic India. They made a conscious decision to try to turn themselves into a economic powerhouse, and in a centralized system, may have been able to control a gameplan better. They've also adapted to more capitialistic means, something the Soviet Union wasn't willing to do.
2) India has much more diversity in its population, which has led to sectarian violence and insurgencies over the years, whereas China is a more homogenous population, where such conflicts don't interfer with productivity.
3) Natural resources - China has more resources, leading them to have a head start in the modern economic era. They were enough of an economic partner 600 years ago that Columbus bumped into America trying to find a better route to trade with them. And much of what India did in terms of global trade was through British rule, which tends not to leave as many resources for the country than if they were independent.

The main obstacle in India's advancement is the existing political system. While communists in China ae going for reforms and liberlisation, the Communists in India are opposing government's move for reforms and liberalisation.
The same is the case for other political parties too. The opposition partiies think that their job is to opplose the government in power against all the actions. Unless India have only 2 or 3 parties instead of having many regional parties and parties formed by breakaway politicians, progress of India wil,l be hampered.

You dont have to waste your time on such long discriptions I would like to say.We are crippled by poverty and illitrecy from time to time. Progresses are done. But I tell you may find a half bred Indian in our leader ship here which I believe is against the constitution. We have Mohan singh be called a puppet.
But In turn do we notice he is selling all our taxes in buying
Thourium for nuke bombs that are sold to U.S and China Under an agreement of permitting foreign bodies under the board name of "investigation"?And was activated by that sorry Singh?in his puppet pal power???Did you know there are ways that are already in functioning. The time is now India should grow.Which the u.s through u.n have seized it...
With sorry asses giving ways to open the Infectin,Appocalyps
to wards X-tinctin.which is easier even to think.
Which in short I'd actually like to say is:We are having suspected spies and a crooks and criminals unconstitutional half-breed @ the very foundation. Its clearly Obvious and a pitty you never gave this a thought. And we leave Home for "AMERICA"road to bright future?" I tell you what Uncle Sam*.

India has tons of different cultures and languages, while China is more homogenous. China's oppressive government can whip it's billion people into an industrial powerhouse. India has emerging industries, the natural result of capitalism and decades of relative peace in the region, but not enough to keep up with China.

India is not real democracy and China is not real communist country.
Democracy or not is not the reason China beat India in economic growth.
You can compare China and India. But put democracy or communist in the front will mislead you.

populace obviously we cannot move forward.
