The meek will band together and take away the rights of the strong. If you've ever watched the show "the Weakest Link"... there you go!
But seriously: The reason why I really hate the sermon on the mount... it is the lifting up of the mediocre. Meek does not mean humble unlike what people below say. Meek means small. And there are a lot of boastful small people in the world who think that their meekness is something to crow about.
History is built not by the meek but by great men some of whom had the meek swayed by them. Christ himself was a great man. But many christians are not. They prefer to be small and they damn all of you who aren't. They think its a sin to be proud of your strengths. They are also ashamed of their own arrogance. That game show I mentioned is just typical of that sort of thinking. If history is to progress, its time to give the great men and women the credit that are due them.

During the times of two and three millennia ago in parts of the Mediterranean and in the Middle East, poets and scribes and oracles, sages, avatars, and prophets spoke with meanings super-imposed one upon another, having double or numerous meanings. The great Sufi Master, a poet and scribe, Maulana Jalal-ud Din'l Rumi consciously wrote and spoke this way.
This fashion was used in part because freedoms in speech were not allowed as they are today, and people could suffer a fate of death, slavery, or banishment if they breached; second, the people of those times had not the collective worldly sophistication, nor the literacy. Third, the state of consciousness was not as it exists now but was instead given to fears, and certain superstition and delusion.
Conveyance by story-form and story-telling were therefore safest, given by the oral tradition through men and women of light in whom the masses felt they could trust: such as the quotation above is an example of that. Another take on this is, whereas "the meek will inherit the Earth," the strong will inherit the heavens. Always a few could indeed peer into these subtle meanings.

The logic? To be honest there are several ways to look at it here is one, consider this chinese proverb:
'A beautiful bird is the only kind we cage'
If you believe that to be true then you can understand the logic.
Or the sayings;
'Before you can be king you must learn to serve'
'If you always give you will always have'
Again if you believe these to be true then you can understand the logic. For me it is both and either, the truth is each person will one day have a moment and understand something like this from their own point of view, we don't need to agree. But this is my view, and I 100% agree, I can see it with my own two eyes. I think the first stumbling block is what you consider the earth to mean?

By definition, it is logical that the meek will inherit the earth:
Syllogism:
A meek person is humble
But, a humble person is down to earth
Therefore, a meek person is down to earth.
Lo, and behold: The meek inherits the earth.
Moreover, a meek and humble person is close to the truth. He is not boastful. He does no make belief. He is trustworthy. Since he is trustworthy, the management of earthly affairs is given to him. Therefore the meek will inherit the earth.

A good read covering this in detail is Emmet Fox's book "The Sermon on the Mount" .
It should be available at your local library or I'm sure at Amazon.
It specifically addresses this issue "the meek shall inherit the earth"

The Sermon on the Mount became into needless to say addressed to the Jews for the Jews and worded in a manner the Jews could draw close relatively. The bible account is clean approximately who have been accumulated their on those hills in Galilee. Jews all of them. no longer Christians, no longer Jehovah's Witnesses, Catholics or all people different than Jews. it relatively is Jesus be conscious alternatives that make the sermon so effective to his listeners, You asked: "Why do godless human beings attempt to respond to a question approximately God? And why do godless human beings attempt to respond to a question approximately Jesus whilst they declare he did no longer exist? Oh, and interior the technique, fail to respond to the question?" because of the fact some all and sundry isn't confident yet. would not believing the bible to be the know God, negate it relatively is value as a obtainable source of historic activity? somebody very sensible wrote or reported those words on that mountainside 1000's of years in the past. Does the indisputable fact that i will question the paranormal claims of increasing from the ineffective, healing, and being the God on the earth, substitute my opinion of the words he expressed. No it would not. So I stay interested in what human beings such as you peacelilly, 360, Annsan, communicate Boldly, and a few others (sorry ought to no longer pull up the avatars/names on the 2nd) could say. I study and evaluate all evidence, it is the only precise element to do. otherwise i could could call myself an atheist, I nonetheless evaluate myself agnostic, so perchance there remains desire for me.????

I interpret it in terms of patience. The meek are not being aggressive and are letting things happen as God intends, so to speak. The whole feeling I get from that quote is that in the end truth prevails. Those who try to gain by means of power will be proved false in time.

Just a pacification statement. Be meek. Don't stand up for yourself. And then you'll go to this magic place called heaven.

It is a slam against pride and the ego. But theologically speaking, it means those who bow, kneel, pray, or otherwise recognize the One God of Abraham will possess it when those who do not recognize Him will perish.
As I said, bowing, kneeling, and prayer are slams against pride and the ego.
