Why not just major in liberal arts? Almost all college credits apply to this major- and then you can put the degree towards which ever career you decide on. You can always go back for a second degree later once you are more sure of which job you want most.

I agree with your mother that a degree will be important to your eventuall success and happiness. DO NOT feel overwellmed by the fact that you are having trouble picking a major. It is not important to know what you want to do at this point in your life, use college as a way to figure out what you dont want to do. after you eliminate all of the things that you would not want to do you will be left with a list of occupations you would not mind doing. then get the degree that would be most beneficial to several of your possibilities.at a young age it can be very scary to try to figure out what you want to be doing when you are 55 but good luck and have confidenve that you will make the decision that is best for you

hi claire.

you have a lot going on don't you.

your mom is right first off.
a degree is important.
it shows people you are not flighty and can stay with things and get er done.

everyone chickens out. your'e in good company.
hair school is great.
but a degree first girl friend.

harder to do but worth more than a hair degree
first college, then the hair cut biz.

day care is wonderful too.

you have so many wonderful interests.

I'd love to talk more if you have the time.

for now, listen to mom.

for later too, come to think about it.

maybe if you pray?
Maybe God will give you a friend to help you sort things out?

let me know?

blessings

is this your first year in school? I would stay put for another year. Take some classes in the fields you are thinking of and see which one appeals to you most. If you want to open a daycare, I suggest working in one first (I used to be a preschool teacher, it's not that easy). Take things slow...if you aren't sure...maybe transfer to a community college to take some classes where it won't cost you as much to figure out what you want to do. I changed majors 2 or 3 times before figuring it out. Most college students do...you aren't alone.

You don't say your age, but it is VERY VERY common to be in college and not know what profession you want to go into. One thing is certain...you have to follow your own heart, and not let others pressure you into making professional (OR personal) decisions that you are not perfectly happy with. I do agree with your mom to the point that you should get an academic degree so that should you not make it in the hair business, you'll have a second option. Other than that, it is your decision....totally.

I would definitely stick to majoring in Education. You can always fall back on that as time goes by. You could go to beauty school anywhere. Don't freak out if you don't have your whole life figured out. I'm 36 and still don't know what I want to be when I "grow up". I think it's good that you are interested in a variety of things.

Don't worry about disappointing others...you need to focus on YOU.

Claire you should do what you love doing, our parents just want the best for us, so is their job to tell us to get a degree in something solid first, remember experience has taught them that you must have a "good career choice" in other to get ahead in life, but if you don't follow your passion, any job you get in the future is gonna be boring.

Follow your heart. Pray about it. Look at your different options. Definitely complete your education at a worthy school. Just follow your heart, hon. Nobody can tell you what to do - You're at a time in your life where you have to make adult decisions about scary life changes. You can do it - just get started.

Have you spoken to a school councilor at either school yet? Have you spoken to other family members about the situation?

That may be your best bet to get your life back in order. Good luck to you.
