It does seem to help if you own those building that you have insurance on, and that you have a few vehicle to drive the whole family including dogs to safety.
I saw one poor family lost their third house on the same spot just years apart. Wonder who will subsidize their fourth?
Oh yes, and the fact that fire crews from around the country have gone in to help. just ignore them.
And wait, wait until you realize that even all the money in that area won't keep some from hurting with no one to care for them. The scams, the builders that take the money and never show up, the government making decisions you though you were entitled to make.
You do fine on your own for a day or three, but wait, its a long slog if you want to go it alone and all of the US is already donating and giving. But not if they read your arrogant summation.

You seem to forget two things. First, the federal government under Bush doesn't come to any state's aid in an emergency. Which, when you figure how many rich people in California have been affected by the fire, is mildly surprising.
Second, the federal government funds about 60% of California's budget. Without the fed you'd have no police, welfare, roads, ports or many others.

No I think California is better off on its own. Vermont recently held a forum for a peaceful breakup of the Union supported via the Southern States. I think it is inevitable that the country will at some point. California was invited attend however I have not heard of anything coming out of it or if California event sent someone to represent.
Perhaps Californians will event develop an independent renewable clean fuel source without the bureaucrats and corrupt industry holding our institutions back.

The fires are primarily the state of California responsibility.
Maybe if the environmentalists would allow brush to be cut on a regular basis it wouldn't get so out of control. The fact that Southern California on average only gets 23 centimeters of rain per year means it is a semi arid region. The dry weather is normal. High population density is inappropriate in that type of environment. But we should bail you out for your mistakes?

In my opinion people are there own worst enemy.
What is wrong with weeding out the trees in the forests, making fire breaks and doing controlled burns to get rid of some of the underbrush.
Having said that, now all the trees and underbrush are burning and it will be 50 years before the trees are back to any significant level.

The documents are astounding and it style of feels that driving whilst on the telephone is approximately as risky as driving under the effect of alcohol.
