The fires are burning my house, WHY?
A few years ago, our neighbors took a petition around the neighborhood wanting to ban controlled burning around the hills. Their reasons were, to stop the smell of smoke, to reduce pollution and to stop the ashes from getting into the swimming pools and clogging the filters. Now, after a few years of uncontrolled undergrowth, the hills are all burning and darkening the sky with heavy smoke. The smell of burning cars and houses is terrible. The pool water was used to fill fire trucks with water after the houses burnt or was near burning.

Can we sue the ones who signed the petition to stop controlled burning that led to the destruction of our neighborhood? It seems like they are the ones liable for the destruction. Were a few ashes in the pool worth it

I don't know about the suing, Colorado does have covadences in communities to do controlled burns and in the mountain towns clean up around these houses. Hope your safe. My brother is in the Air National Guard and flies C130s, he is there fighting the fires as I type. Best of luck.

My sincere condolences to those who have suffered lost.

There are some individual solutions that can be implemented in order to help prevent fire damage and loss in the future.

These include using one's pool or well for example as a water source to douse the house or business and nearby landscaping continuously with water during the fire.

Best wishes and you can read more at the link below.

I would sure lay a part of the responsibility at the short sighted people who allowed the stoping of controlled burning to clear out the fuel for the fire.
As far as legal responsibility. Ehh, likely not.
It is sadly ironic for the pools they wanted to protect from ashes, becoming pumper stations to put out a fire.
Good luck to you and your family, I am sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry about your home. I'm in Canada and the West Coast is the same way, but we do controlled burning, or we'd have nothing left.

Some people don't think about tomorrow, just too narrow minded to see what "you" can see.

I don't know if you can sue. We don't usually sue as much in Canada..but I sure would look into it.

Be really careful and look after yourself and family.. we are all watching, and have sent three huge water bombers your way to help out..

Stay safe.

you can't sue someone for what Mother Nature has done. Though man can control some of it, you can't control it all. I lived in S. Ca for quite a few years and that's just the risks we take for living there. I lived in Redlands and my house lied right on the San Andreas fault. It's a natural disaster...you can't do anything about it and you can't sue over it. You're frustrated and it's scary, but doo doo happens.

I don't know about suing, because I don't know what the cause of your fire was. I'm sorry you are going through this. I have close relatives in north San Diego Country. I'm going to star this question because one of my contacts was telling me something like this.
