Lets say I want to save some extra money on the costs of a modular home, could you do somethings yourself ? like leave the floor bare and lay your own flooring....stuff like that.

As Godget indicated they can do all this much cheaper at the plant. In fact, frequently they install the floor covering before they put the walls in.
The only way to save some money would be to do part your site work yourself, like footers or stem walls. However, even that might not be much of a savings
I know a professional modular freight and installation guy who purchased a manufactured house for his daughter. He figured he'd save money by doing the freight and installation himself. He ended up letting the dealer do all that work since the savings wasn't worth his time.

I have a modular home and they told me they needed it to be move in ready when I took it. About the only thing I did was paint the already primed walls. I am not sure if this is the case with all the makers, mine is a patriot. When I looked at the price sheet the carpet was only marked at $1300. My home is 1950 ft most of it carpet, I don't think you will save any money doing it yourself.

The manufactured home companies buy in bulk, have people that do this day in and day out, can have that pattern flooring down in a fraction of the time it would take you, even if you are skilled in these areas.

depends...are YOU going to install the floor or pay someone ?
if YOU are going to do the work yourself then yes you will save. if you are going to hire someone...whats the sense ? may as well have it come complete.
