It has been well documented that the Republican leaning state of Mississippi(Republican governor) did much better than Louisana did when Hurricane Katrina hit. Hopefully, those hit the hardest will live in Republican strongholds where federal aid will be the swiftest.

Captain: Well said. Let's hope that FEMA moves a little faster this time, although the president does appoint the head of FEMA. " You're doing a heck of a job, Brownie." Remember that quote?

In some areas of Southern California, fire insurance is impossible to get at any price, not matter what your party affiliation.

FEMA has promised aid -- so has the Governator.

Fortunately, there is a pretty good support network of private citizens and relief organizations -- I spend the day at the Qualcomm evacuation center volunteering (since I am now homeless) and it's amazing how many people have chipped in materials and time to help.

So, despite what the govt does -- it looks like most areas will be in pretty good shape as far as basic survival -- FEMA and govt aid will be important when people start trying to put their lives back together next week.

EDIT: To WineAndWindowGuy -- spend a day at the Qualcomm evac center and you'll have a very different opinion -- if you actually look and listen to people.

Fire doesn't target political groups -- and according to demographics, most of the people in Rancho Bernardo, Scripps Ranch, Poway and Olivenhain -- all whose homes have burned -- are not at work. They're in shelters and they're helping out here at the stadium.

Disaster is not political.

If the State of Calif requests assistance from the feds in a timely manner (and doesn't wait 24 hours like Blanco did) they should get all the help they ask for.

I think it's up to FEMA, not Bush, he's just one person and FEMA is an entire organization of slow moving people.

Is Bush supposed to put out the fire? Can any liberal take care of themselves? Is there no insurance in So Cal?
The people of the Republican areas are not at Qual Com stadium looking for food and water. They are at work.

Bush won't care about the fires in California unless they begin approaching the family ranch in Texas.....

Well, is he on "vacation" again?

I would really hate it, if he had to interrupt his vacation to actually give a **** about what's happening. It would be such a tragedy if he had to stop clearing the back forty and actually do his job!
