40 watts(intense) is what i use

in the summer 40 watts should be fine,in the winter i would up it to 60-75 watts.they are used to the cold of northern ponds,and they do hibernate in the wild under the ice,they have an antifreeze in their blood,and shut down almost completely.so the situation is very tricky.do you want to have them all year long to look at,then that will probably happen in any artificial enclosure.

Depends on how far away it is from the basking spot. Anywhere between a 40watt to a 100watt can be used. Use a digital probe thermometer to measure the temps at the basking spot, and then adjust the wattage accordingly. It is easier to conect the heat lamp to a thermostat or dimmer switch rather than to move it closer or further away.
