I have lost a lot of respect for the leadership of the Palestinians when the late Yasser Arafat was in charge of the PLO. How does a man, who is representing so many people who are impoverished, and himself once impoverished, become a multi-millionaire as the leader of the Palestinian people.
Hamas, a terrorist group of thugs, was a poor answer to the corruption that existed within the Fatah, prior to Hamas being voted into power. And, that is the sad part. A terrorist organization has a legitimate say in world and national politics as a result of a legal well publicized election.
The money that is still in the hands of the Arafat estate should be given back to the people of Palestine for whom deals and relief efforts were geared to help. The people of Palestine are suffering and impoverished largely due to their own previous leadership under Yasser Arafat.
Just a note...On October 10, 1959, a group of about 20 Palestinians met in Kuwait and secretly formed Fatah. Fatah (or al-Fatah) is an acronym standing for Harakat Al-Tahrir Al-Watani Al-Filastini—the Movement for the National Liberation of Palestine. Yasser Arafat, who had been working as a construction engineer in Kuwait, soon emerged as the leader of Fatah.
When the PLO was founded in 1964, as an umbrella organization for various Arab terrorist factions, Fatah was the largest group. It was, and still is, the military arm of the PLO. By 1968 Arafat was PLO's leader and was chairman of the PLO since then up until Arafat died.
Fatah, the largest terrosit organization representing the Palestinians, was founded in 1956 by a group of young Gazans. It was, and still is, the military arm of the PLO. Among the young terrorists was Yasser Arafat. By 1968 Arafat was al Fatah's leader and he has been chairman of the PLO since 1968. Among the offshoots of Fatah was the infamous Black September who massacred the Israeli athletes at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

Pity more than anything else.
To have your nationality based primarily not out of your own culture and history, but out of conflict with other groups is sad.

The Palestinians did not exist as a separate people before the British, they were simply part of the larger group of Levantine Arabs that also spanned Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria. Palestinian nationality is historically very new.

A nation before colonisation by the British lived side by side as Muslims, Christians and Jews.
When the British left, the gave most of it to the Jews who made their own state and put many Christian and Muslim Palestinians in refugee camps
