6x-2=x+1
6x-2+2=x+1+2[adding 2 to both sides]
6x=x+3
6x-x=x+3-x[subtracting x from both sides]
5x=3
5x/5=3/5[dividing both sides by 3]
x=3/5

6x - 2 = x + 1

Subtract the x from the right side in order to have only one variable remaining.

5x -2 = 1

Now, similar to what you did with the x, but instead add the 2 on the left side to the 1 on the right side.

5x = 3

You want to get rid of that coefficient that is adjacent to the x so divide each side by 5.

Your final answer should be x = 3/5.

simple, you add the like terms like this

6x-2=x+1
+2 <- carry the two over since 1 and 2 are like terms
6x=x+3
+1x=-1 <- carry the one over since like-terms both have x
5x=3
divide 5 by 3 theres your answer !


P.S. when carrying over always change the sign ex. if - change to + vice versa
