All stainless will scratch, regardless of quality. If you chose a high gloss finish, you should purchase a grate from the manufacturer. This conforms to the sink bowl shape, leaving drain access. Satin finish sinks will eventually get so scratched that the finish looks even. Actually, this will happen with a gloss sink, too. Either way, you'll end up with a uniform, satin finish.

It will scratch if you wash things like pans or other metals or porcelains in it. I have a dishwasher but never wash pans or their lids in it. I hand wash but use a rack on the base of my stainless sink to rest the pans on while I wash them so not to scratch. Also don't use any compound to clean the sink that has the ability to scratch the surface. Use a stainless polish regularly. Stainless is a metal and will scratch if you don't properly take care of it.

Do Not use anything abrasives. You will have problems forever if you do. That will ruin the finish. BarKeeper's Friend has been a life saver for me for the cheap sink that was put into my place. Was shocked that it made my sink almost look new again.

they have stainless steel cleaner. most regular cleansers are too abrasive for stainless. they have rubber mats that you can place in your sink to help prevent problems, Rubbermaid makes these mats
