Hypothesis

After having thoroughly researched your question, you should have some educated guess about how things work. This educated guess about the answer to your question is called the hypothesis.

The hypothesis must be worded so that it can be tested in your experiment. Do this by expressing the hypothesis using your independent variable (the variable you change during your experiment) and your dependent variable (the variable you observe-changes in the dependent variable depend on changes in the independent variable). In fact, many hypotheses are stated exactly like this: "If a particular independent variable is changed, then there is also a change in a certain dependent variable."

Example Hypotheses

* "If I open the faucet [faucet opening size is the independent variable], then it will increase the flow of water [flow of water is the dependent variable].
* "Raising the temperature of a cup of water will increase the amount of sugar that dissolves ."
* "If a plant receives fertilizer [having fertilizer is the independent variable], then it will grow to be bigger than a plant that does not receive fertilizer " .
* "If I put fenders on a bicycle , then they will keep the rider dry when riding through puddles " .

A hypothesis is just an educated guess .

Like with an experiment it says what your gonna do and in the hypothesis your supposed to state what you think will happen but before you do the lab

in the conclusion you basically state what really happend and why

Hopefully this makes sense!!!

a hypothesis is an if and then statement
for example:
If the I were to feed my plant three times a day then it would grow half an inch a week.

On testing water

its sort of what you think the outcome of an experiment or situation will be. in my science class we use this sort of thing: the "If, Then, Because"
say it was the experiment of how many drops of water on a penny it would look something like this:
IF(state experiment in a simple way) i use an eye dropper to put drops of water on a penny, THEN i think that there will be 35(or whatever your predicted outcome is) on the penny before the surface tension breaks, BECAUSE (why you think thiw will happen)i know that once the surface tensoin breaks then the watter will drip off the penny.

hope i helped!

it is an educated guess example: I assume this is for your homework, or school related.
