Obviously, one of the answers is plus-or-minus 337 times the sin of 23 degrees, and the other is plus-or-minus 337 times cos(23 degrees). From the statement of the problem, the horizontal is positive and the vertical is negative.

Since the angle is made with the "horizontal", the horizontal direction is taking the role of the x-axis, where x is determined by the cos of the angle and y is determined by the sin of the angle.
