how do i get the person off my account? i've been paying on time for a year

You cannot change the terms of the contract unless you refinance the car.

The ONLY way to get ANYONE off ANY loan is to pay off the loan in full. Your current lender MAY be willing to refinance. They MAY even give you the same terms as your current loan. In any case, you get a NEW loan, or you keep the co-signer.

Why do you want them off the loan. If anything, I could see them wanting to be off so they are no longer responsible, but there isn't any harm with them being on it still. Just keep paying it on time and reward the co-signer by keeping their credit clean too!

The co-signer would remain on the loan as long as you keep the same loan, as the previous answerer said you would have to refinance the loan solely in your name to remove the co-signer.

Your going to have to refinance the loan. Check with the current bank that your using, I'm sure they will refinance it for you, assuming of course, your credit/income is sufficient on your own.
