I have a machine similar to this that was marketed to children. It is not the best set up you can have. I own several other types that are far more flexible.

Do some research on knitting machines. Join any of the machine knitting groups available in yahoo groups you will find plenty of input there based on your interest in machine knitting.

The reviews for this knitting machine are horrible. go to amazon.com, look up this machine, and read the reviews. apparently, the yarn tangles easily and the crank is hard to turn.

If you are just starting out, look for one in an op shop. My aunt found me one for $15. If I really get into it, I might want to get a fancier one, but complex isn't required for a beginner.
