I use both.... if I am buying tampons then I get either Tampax Pearl or some other plastic applicator. I know it is not good for the enviornment, but it is definatley more comfortable. As for pads...I love always with wings (ultra thin). They work the best for me.

Its all about a woman's personal preference and how comfortable she is with inserting a tampon and having the confidence to know whether or not the tampon is adequately working and not leaking. I am 27 years old and have tried a tampon once before when I started my period (14 years ago) and found that I am more secure in wearing maxi pads. My flow is somewhat heavy on the first and second day and found that wearing an overnight pad on those days usually helps and makes me feel secure that I am not leaking. I also use Always brand, I feel they are the best, they don't tear apart as easily as the others do and hold everything in better so there's no chance of leakage. Hope this helps!

It really is a matter of personal preference.

You don't need to worry about tampons not being safe. I have seen several people respond to you with threats of Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), but that shouldn't scare you away from tampons. TSS is very rare, and you can get it in other ways besides from tampons. Most doctors will never treat a single case in their careers. In fact, there were only 5 documented cases of tampon-related TSS in 1997 (the last year of records).

I was very active in sports when I was in high school, too (and I was a virgin). I wore tampons all the time. I was more confident that I was not going to leak or be smelled. Plus, several sports have pretty telling outfits (such as cheer leading and gymnastics). I preferred Tampax pearl. You should try several different kinds to see what you like best.

I always bought both types, used the Always pads during sleep so nothing would leak, and the tampons during the day, but on heavy flow days (usually the first two) I had to change them out every 2 hours during the day if I was active, they filled up that fast. It was a tossup whether I should have used a pad on those days, sometimes. Just to make sure nothing leaked.

Love those wings on the Always pads, they save the underwear!

As for tampons, I found those with the closed tops would catch and pinch when they were inserted, sometimes really bad. I preferred the cardboard tube ones, they slid in a lot smoother and didn't grab on anything.

Being 21 I've had todeal with your problem for awhile now and believe me tampons are much more comfortable and alot less messy than pads. I usually stick with o.b. but tampax is also a very good reliable brand. I'd stay away from offbrand tampons like equate and other cheap solutions. Cheaper is not always better. Also to reduce the risk of TSS (Toxic Shock Syndrome) make sure you change your tampon every 2-4 hours and I would reccomend using a pad when you go to sleep. Hope this helps.

I would recommend looking into sea sponge tampons. They are reusable and very soft and comfortable to use. They may seem to be 'gross' because they are reusable, but they might be easier to start to use than tampons. There is no applicator, so you have to be comfortable touching your body, but it is a great way to get to know your body.

There are also menstrual cups like The Keeper and the Moon Cup, but these take some getting used to and can be a bit painful the first time around if the hymen has not yet been broken.

GladRags cloth pads are comfortable and reusable pads. I know that the idea of cloth pads might seem a bit crazy, but this is what women have been using for a good long time and they are kind on your body and the environment.

I use both. Pads when I sleep and tampons during the day. I just feel more fresh with a tampon in. It is scary to do at first, but you will get the hang of it.try to relax when you are inserting it, it will make it easier. I prefer plastic applicators also, I haven't noticed much difference in the brands to be truthful. I would start out using slim or regular.

When I used to use tampons I used the brand Ob. The thing that I liked about it is that I didn't have to worry about cardboard applicators. I found Tampax (this one has a cardboard applicator) very hard and painful to use.

I prefer using pads, and the brand I use is Always. I found it worked better than some of the other brands out there.

I used to use pads but switched to tampons and I'm sticking with them! Pads can get a little messy sometimes and i didn't like the fact that i could feel them when i wore them. Tamps are so much easier.

I use "Playtex" regular tampons && yes, those do have plastics applicators lol

I haven't really "explored" the world of pads and tampons so I couldn't tell you what brands are worse or better than other. I'm guessing no name brands would be a little less quality than name brands... dunno, just a guess lol

I think always is a good brand of pads.........I would recommend tampax pearl.....those have the the plastic applicator........ O.B. doesn't have an applictor at all but the are small and very compact/ convenient.......I think tampons are great.....I think tampons are much more comfortable while playing sports too.... I didn't start using tampons right away.....I waited until I was like 17.........but it doesn't really matter and it doesn't affect your virginity
