What can the Senate do about White House manipulation of scientific papers written for informational purposes to ourleaders? Can it demand the original papers from the scientists themselves and not be stuck with the political rewrites?

They can ask, they can demand, but in the end it will be up to "The Decider" if he wants to give truthful information to the Senate. As you know, being truthful with America is not one of his strong points, it's not even a thought that crosses his mind in any form. With the Supreme Court backing the White House, all is lost when getting anything from "The Decider".
The scientists can, on their own, willing give information to the senate at any time, but in doing so at a risk to their careers if working under the executive branch. These include the DOE, NASA, NOAH, EPA, and other. The head of NASA lost his job last year and was replaced with a Bush appointee, with the mistake of thinking that he would tow the line when it came to Global Warming. He second what the previous Head said, basically that the world is headed for a melt down.

Personally I think they don't care if the public gets the correct information. That way there will be less people to worry about.
