My front tires are bald but the back tires have about half their tread left. The vehicle is only a 2001 so I want the tires to match. I'm sticking with the exact same tires because the bald front tires of my Buick Regal are original and have withstood 95,000 miles.

The problem is I can get $100 off 4 new tires even though 2 have about half their wear left. It will cost $220 for 2 or $340 for 4 new tires. These prices for the tires I want includes taxes, mounting etc. What should I do? Oh yeah I plan on keeping the vehicle for about 1-3yrs.

Have you ever considered buying a used tire? Sometimes you can find a great deal (including mounting and balance) on used tires. If you go to a reputable place, you will find tires with very little wear. (Many people buy brand new cars and switch out the tires...this is where they get their stock from). Otherwise I would suggest buying the 4 new tires so that you have even wear on them. You can always save your current tires to use as a spare.

The tires are 6 years old. Look at the two that have tread left and look between the rows going around the tire. Are there lots of cracks? If there are then buy the 4. Since the tires are that old it would be better to have the newer tires for wet weather traction and better stopping.

They have lasted a decent amount of mileage, be safe buy the full set. Otherwise you'll be buying two more next year and they'll be more expensive.

sure. And the present thinking from tire companies is to place the recent tires on lower back, no longer because of the fact of braking (rear tires furnish little or no braking stress), yet for lateral traction. it variety of feels they could desire to have human beings lose steerage traction and understeer off the line right into a tree fairly than having the rear-end destroy out and the vehicle to slip sideways right into a tree. Airbags and seat belts have replaced the wear and tear archives sufficient that i assume it relatively is now safer to slam head-on right into a roadside obstruction, than it relatively is to broadside it. i will attest to the possibility of sliding sideways right into a good merchandise, as a pal of mine became into heavily injured and left with techniques harm, and a pal of his became into killed whilst a Ford Falcon they have been passengers in slid sideways off a airborne dirt and mud highway right into a tree.

that's a decent deal.. change all four tires and then keep the two best for spares.. I am not sure about any one else, but every time I put off preventive maintenance my car always breaks down at the most inconvenient time possible.. so change them now and have two decent spares..

I'd strongly recommend looking at tirerack.com when shopping for tires. They do comparison tests in a dozen categories. They handle two dozen popular brands so there's many to chose and compare.

If I were you I would move the back tires to the front and put new ones on the back.
