Plus, they don't keep hoses in their tanks.

Military and National Guard are helping.
Navy has also evacuated their barracks (put sailors on ships) so that the barracks can be used for evacuees.
Pendleton crew are out helping fight the fires (while their own homes may be at risk - there are fires near Pendleton).

well the Navy has supplied air tankers. The marines are working on a fire there on Camp pendelton so their kind of tied up. the air force is sending in more aircraft... but the armed services are not really fire fighters

Same reason they didn't help in New Orleans. It's not their job. What part of military don't you understand? Guess what the "military" does.

Two water bombers just arrived in California from Canada. They were asked to bring these specific type of planes as they are designed to fight huge fires.

We do what we can.. let's hope this helps.

The military's Commander-In-Chief has them pre-occupied killing people over in another sovereign nation that in no way threatened, provoked or attacked the United States. Better the military is over in Iraq helping a handful of wealthy elitists, industrialists and power brokers become wealthier and more powerful than being here in the states where they might be able to provide help to desperate U.S. citizens. -RKO- 10/23/07

I believe there is limited help from them but the majority are at present busy 'helping' other countries overseas.
For maximum help you need to live in Texas or Florida.
