So, I recently met this guy (I'm gonna call him Buddy) who I thought was gonna be real cool, clever, and someone I'd really enjoy getting to know and possibly even want to date. However, after having gotten to know him a little, I've come to the conclusion that I was wrong about Buddy. Although he's still very nice, I have now discovered that not only is he not as clever as I thought, but he's also kind of shallow and materialistic.
Don't you hate when that happens?

Yes, it usually makes me feel very stupid when I trust someone and then it turns out they are not worthy of that trust.
But I've also had the situation where I'm wrong because they are considerably NICER than I expected. That also makes me feel stupid, but I can be glad I was wrong.
In either case, I try to study why I so misjudged the person, and whether or not it was pre-judge (prejudice) that I did. This is especially true about people who dress to a certain stereotype.
For example, when I was living in Boulder Creek, I rode the bus with teenagers from the local high school. There were quite a few punked out in leather and studs and chains and many piercings and all of that. But one of the punkest helped me get my grocery bags onto the bus and talked pleasantly with me for the whole ride, then helped me get the bags off even though she was going on further.

Even the ones who appear that way have other aspects to their personalities. I am not so sure that I would give up the friendship quite yet. There may be more to him than meets the eye.
but yes I hate being wrong about people..Im usually a good judge of character

Nah, that is only normal and to be expected. I've also had friends, or should I say acquaintances, who when they first meet me, they really like me, then when they actually get to know me...end up really disliking me. Yeah, that's okay with me because I didn't really like them either the more I got to know them. But what I don't like is the person trying to insult me by telling me BS like "You've really changed". No, you just got to know me is all. I haven't changed, your perception of me has. Its not rocket science. Of course, the reverse is also true, there's a lot of people who the better they get to know me, the more they like me and the more I like them.
I think that's normal, really. Because there will always be people who you like and those who you dislike. You cannot like everyone, its not humanly possible or healthy.

First impressions are wrong many times. No one is as good or as bad as we may think they are.
