I have a red ear slider and im just wondering if i can leave him in the aquarium with my huge pear gourami? Ive left him ther before and all he does is swim around and the fish dont seem to mind but im concerned if hes having difficulty swimming all the way up ( a meter ) to the surface to breath. Is he ok with being constantly under water?

Turtles can drown if they do not have a basking area to provide land. They can get exhausted. Other then that they are very strong swimmers.

No it is NOT good for your turtle to be constantly under water , PLEASE put you red ear slider in a separate tank,he may try to bite the gourami but mostly red ears NEED a tank HALF FILLED with water so the turtle can also rest on a BIG rock OR get a plastic divider for a 1/3 of the tank and fill it with dirt and a rock, make sure the tank is always clean if not that is how they get salmonella you have to use at least a 25 gallon tank

He needs a way to get out of the water and a basking light. Sliders LOVE to bask.

He should be fine. In the wild, the water is much deeper than that. Red eared sliders are really good swimmers. As long as you have a little bit of dry land he will be fine.

NO! Turtles NEED basking sites. Sliders are semi-aquatic- they want sun, to be dry, to rest. Without good basking and sun, they get fungus, stressed, etc.
