Your attitude is your most important tool (in general). Steve hints at this. (Zestee, too, in the opposite direction.) When doing chores, don't ever think "Now I'm finished" or similar thoughts, as it becomes exasperating to do them again. Life is a continual process. For example, when you finish a meal, you don't think, "Ah, that was nice, maybe I'll never be hungry again." Similarly, like meals, chores become more manageable and less encumbering when done by a specific schedule, e.g. laundry on specific days of the week.

It is pretty normal for me. My problem usually has to do with motivation to get started, or to keep up with a mess that really isn't that bad to start with. Then it gets worse and harder to think about dealing with. And I am extremely absent minded about laying something down when I am done with it, and not realizing it. So I should be going behind myself regularly to pick up what I left laying around. But I don't always do it.
Anyway, my motivation is the hardest part. But once I get going, I seem to have a bee in my bonnet and it gets done pretty fast and effeciently and it is satisfying to have a clean place.
One particular pitfall I need to watch for is when the trash gets full. I HATE taking out the trash, and soon it starts to overfill, and then the counter piles up with garbage, and my smaller wastebaskets get full, etc, and everything gets kind of backlogged. So by the time I take out the garbage, including today, there is usually 2-3 bags accumulated.
One of two tricks in my experience that I can share:
It has a lot to do with mindset. I have had to learn in my life that just because I don't want to do something, doesn't mean it doesn't need done. So I know I don't have to WANT to do it. When I can convince myself to just get up and do it anyway, there is an odd sense of empowerment from it.
I play a lot of tricks on myself: pretending I am having company, racing the commercials on the TV, or the length of a very familiar movie, or something I can listen to rather than watch, like a stand up comedy show. All this instead of music playing because i don't have a sound system in my house. One trick I wish I was better at, is just realizing and reminding myself that I deserve to do my housework because I deserve a clean house.

It's pretty darn normal. What I do when I get bummed out about this is to really feel gratitude for the fact that I have someplace to clean!! There are literally millions of people who would love to have a house to clean. When I look at it that way I then consider myself lucky and it makes the cleaning more fun! Try it. I know this sounds simplistic but the ability to truly feel gratitude and to gain the humility that results from it is not!

Completely normal. If I'm in the mood to clean I usually feel it when I get up. The happy urge to clean. But most of the time when I come home from work and the house is messy I get flustered and angry. I just don't feel like it tonight!!

There is nothing wrong with taking a day off, but remember, if you let things pile up, you will be the one paying the price. Even if you are going to have a lazy day, try to get up and make the beds and load the dishwasher b4 you skip out!!!

It isn't you! You are procrasting just days??? Try weeks and months! I think we are both depressed........well, at least I am and you are falling down the slope now too. Try doing some redecorating, painting some walls, something to cheer you up. As for my place, just send a bomb.
