You don't need a passport for land travel quite yet. BUT without one you should bring a birth certificate and drivers license. B/C is proof of your citizenship, D/L is proof of your identity. Passport is proof of both.

If you are driving, you currently need a photo, government-issue ID. (license, etc). If you are flying in, you need a passport. I understand that for a short while longer, if you have applied for a passport and not yet received it, you may bring you copy of the passport application you filed.

all i take is my greencard and passport- its really not that hard to get in, it only takes like 5 seconds
