My little girl is 3 mos old and has been constipated for about a week. She is strictly on formula (enfimil prosobee) What can I do for her at such a young age?

An oz. or two of apple or prune juice diluted with water. From what I understand, you should stay away from Karo syrup since can contain spores that can cause infant botulism. Glycerin suppositories are also an option if the juice doesn't work. Prune juice always does the trick for my little one though :)

Breastfed babies kind of do their own thing when it comes to BM's. Some have 3 or 4 a day. Some go every 2 to 4 days especially after 3 months. If he is peeing and he is his happy normal self, his probably is not constipated. If he starts getting fussy or has a fever or seems sick other wise, call you doctor. Do not resort to enemas or soap. Your breast milk in his tummy is the best thing. I am an RN and have worked a lot of pediatrics. See the source. It looks like it was written just for you. Have fun with the baby. He will just get cuter and cuter.

My 2 month old was VERY constipated and I've been putting a few drops of karo syrup in her bottles for about 4 weeks now and she's as regular as the sun comes up! I'd also try some gas drops in her bottle, that helps break the bubbles down in the formula making it easier for her tummy.

Good luck!!

Give her 1 teaspoon of light Karo syrup in 2 oz of warm water. This acts as a soft stool softner and help her out. My baby girl was constipated almost at almost 3 wks old and this was safe and soft enough for her. You might also try massaging the baby's lower tummy with some baby lotion. Start with slow, circular motions and it should also help to stimulate them. Hope it helps!

This is going to sound REAL crazy but I have seen it work. My sister in laws neighbor on her Army base 16 yrs ago did this for my nephew....She took a little sliver of ivory soap and held it just barely inside his rectum and the stimulation from the soap had him going in no time. I have used the more conventional ways. Such as.... apple juice with water in her bottle or prune juice with water in her bottle besides that you may want to call your Dr. and see what he has to say. I hope she can go soon for you. Poor honey is going to have a tummy ache if she doesn't produce. Just a thought - Maybe your Dr. will suggest she be on a lower iron formula. Maybe she is getting to much iron??

Try putting her in a warm bath and massaging her tummy. It worked every time with my little ones. You might also want to check out www.opmom.com. It's a great site with circles devoted to a variety of topics. I've found some wonderful information there and the people there are friendly and supportive.

Glycerine suppositories. If you call your pediatrician, this is what you will be told.
