This happens to me, does it happen to anybody else? Say you're reading a fictional book do you ever start thinking of the world through the protagonists' eyes whilst you're out in the real world? Say the protagonist is markedly cynical, do you become briefly more cynical in your day to day life? Or am I on my own with this one?

No, I actually think there are many of us that do this same thing. It is usually when I am reading a very engrossing book that I can somewhat identify with or that takes me away totally from my own reality that I can "become" the main character in the book. I will somewhat live thru that character for some time after reading the book too... and find that I wish the story would continue on....it's almost like a loss when the story ends.

it is a state called amenability,it is combination of the author's skill and your personal identification with the scenario and/or character, usually the protagonist's point of view.some of us are more suggestible than others,so be aware of what you're reading!like hypnosis, your basic value system will remain intact.a pedestrian example would be :you are an animal lover.the main character of the book you're reading happens to like kicking his dog!you will find his behavior repugnant.you will not think it's ok to go around kicking dogs!if you're relating to a cynical character,i'll hazard a guess that you too have a cynical bent.also, skepticism, sarcasm and a sense of the absurdity of things can be humorous and enjoyable to read.just remember the difference between a skeptic and a cynic.a diehard cynic is basically a miserable person with no hope or faith about life.

If I'm really into the book, I have done it.
