Admirer and devotee are basically two words for the same thing: a person who is drawn, both emotionally and physically, to people with a specific disability. This takes on many different aspects: some are attracted to amputees, others to paraplegics, and others to polio victims, CP sufferers, etc. The reasons for such attractions have never been fully explained by psychologists. To some, this IS a fetish -- it is a required trait in order for them to achieve sexual gratification. To others, it is merely an attraction trigger, in much the same way that many people are attracted to tall people, or short people, etc.

A wannabe is a person who suffers from Body Integrity Identity Dysmorphia (BIID), which is an intense need to BE disabled. This is a neuro-psychological impairment, on the same order as gender dysmorphia which drives people to have sex change operations. I don't understand BIID, but I know that it is intensely distressing to the people who have it. It is not a "kinky" thing. These people are not just out to have their jollies.

A pretender falls somewhere in between these two categories. People may pretend to be disabled because they are suffering from BIID and wish to explore the world in a state as close to their "correct" bodies as possible. OR they may be admirers and, lacking a disabled partner, trying to fill that hole by pretending to be disabled themselves.

Of these conditions, BIID is probably the most dangerous to the suffer, as the are prone to take extreme measures to become the disabled person they need to be. Devotees and pretenders are mostly harmless, unless their attractions become obsessive and drive them to inappropriate behavior.

Devotees are the ones who admire people in wheelchairs. Wannabees are the ones who want to be in wheelchairs themselves. And pretenders are wannabees who pretend to be disabled.

How dare you post such a disgusting question on here do you realise how awful this question is? I don't know how you even have the nerve to post this question on here. I can't believe how sick you are- believe me, speaking as a disabled 16 year old I would give anything to be able bodied and not have to deal with the problems I have with every day tasks and for people who pretend to be wheelchair users is beyond sick You don't know how lucky you are NOT to be in a wheelchair. stop pretending to be disabled and get a life

I suppose it's the equivalent of a groupie whose focus is someone who is in a wheelchair. I find it a little hard to believe but there are wierd people all over the place and I suppose there can even be people who have fetishes for the disabled.

The right name is called acrotomophilia or we refer to these types of persons as Devotees,Admirers they can be male and female.Sometimes I see them join our club. They are just regular people that have different tastes.Sometimes I get contacted by young female Dev's as we call them, most of them are nice people. So don't judge them.

I agree with dansinger,I watched a programme on television about it. One girl was going about in a wheel chair, just to practise for the time, when she was hoping to get her legs amputated. I saw one man happy as a sand boy, because he paid to get his leg amputated, and that made him happy.

Maybe some dillusional person who believes they should be handicapped...Some lady on 20/20 kept trying to get doctors to cut off her legs because she believe she was more like herself in a wheelchair....theres probably soooo many handicapped people that only wish they could have both legs and walk.

Basically I think those are people who have a fetish. To be honest, I don't understand this fetish, lol. Some fetishes I understand but others are just too weird to comprehend.
