Well gnats have sort of long mosquito type legs.
Fruit flies are short fat and sort of red.
Each one has a different remedy.
SO go to a garden center, get YELLOW STICKY CARDS!!
On these, you can catch your pests and have them I.D. at a lc cal garden center.
Then, for fruit flies
First get rid if all existing fruit, wash the area where the fruit Had been stored in hot dish soap and water.
Then as more fruit comes into the house, wash it in dish soap and water, dry it well and put it into the fridge!
For fungus gnats.
Those are found on houseplants.
There are pesticide drenches that kill fungus gnats.
But I prefer the organic method,
Pull the plant out of the pot. Bleach the pot, and run the plant roots under a hose to wash off the potting soil.
Then re pot into clean soil and a clean bleached pot.
NEXT, cut up a potato....place it cut side down, skin side up, into the pots.
The potatoes Will collect the fungus gnat larvae and you can TRASH BAG AND TIE up the bags and dispose of then nd keep replace the potato slices until you do not find any more larvae !

If it's a gnat, it's the soil you need to treat, that is where they come from(larvae).
Sticky yellow paper helps to control the flying gnat.
The adult gnat is Mosquito like. I suck them up with a small vacuum.

Fruit flies, get rid of the fruit.
