OK, J.K. rowling may have said that dumbledores gay, but its just a scam. i mean, shes written her last book so there no more money in it for her, so she makes up some stupid lie that dumbledores gay to sell more of her books to get even more money because shes a greedy BiT-Ch who has no life. i mean, she ruined a good book for no dam reason, just to get money and now my moms not gonna let me get the last two movies or games because she doesn't want to support homosexuality. and i dont blame her. i wont even be surprised if rowling had a giant mob at her doorstep by noon tomorrow either.
and no, there isint even a single clue in ANY of the books that dumbledores gay. i mean , where the hell would she put something like that in a childens book? nowhere. so, no dumbledore is not gay, he never has, and never will be no matter how much rowling wants to make money.

In MY opinion, I really do not see Dumbledore as gay; I believe it was an idea that J.K Rowling toyed with but decided to make ambiguous to the readers. Dumbeldore's sexual orientation has no effect on the plot of the book, so it does not really make a difference whether or not he was gay. It seems that Rowling wants to make him gay to show the "diversity" of her characters and that the thought of Dumbledore's sexual orientation only came up recently. Throughout the six books, he has shown absolutely no signs of being gay. Just because he has had many friendships does not qualify him as a candidate for being homosexual, unless you want to say that all deep male friendships signify homsexuality.
Yes. Rowling did say to the film producer not to give Dumbledore a female love interest, but taken from the books, there's little if any evidence that shows him gay. What is the point of saying that Dumbledore is gay if she doesn't make it obvious in the book? There's as much evidence in the books that Dumbledore is gay as there's evidence that Gandalf is into beastialty and Aslan from Narnia is asexual.
Dumbledore had feelings for Grindelward, that much is certain but I believe those were just feelings of friendship. From the the 7th book's description, Dumbeldore described Grindelward and him as "two clever, arrogant boys with a SHARED obsession" and that it was Grindelward's "ideas that inflamed me (Dumbeldore)." There's not much in the most revealing chapter of Dumbledore's life about his alleged homosexuality.
If J.K Rowling had not uttered the statement about Dumbledore being gay, would we have noticed at all? I really believe not. Maybe if we got ahold of her notes, we'll see that Rowling might have considered the possibility of him being gay but in the end, Dumbeldore does not give the vibe that he is gay in any way.

I don't think that JKR has an agenda, or is seeking more publicity. According to the story I read, she had told the writer of the screenplay for HBP that Dumbledore was gay because there was mention of a female love interest in the screenplay and she had to set them right. Having done that, she might as well have made it public, since it would have eventually come out anyway--she could control when and how it was done. and in any case, this story came out because she was directly asked if Dumbledore loved anyone.
Throughout the series, we know Dumbledore as a tireless and seemingly single-minded fighter against Dark Wizards (at least from Harry's perspective; we do have to remember that Albus is also a great teacher, an alchemist, and important theoretical Wizard--remember the tools and instruments he made himself). But how did Albus become that way?
We learn much about this in DH, with Arianna's story, Aberforth's story and the story of the friendship between Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald. In reading DH, it was clear that Grindelwald seduced Dumbledore on a number of levels; intellectually, ideologically, and, by JKR's new revelation, emotionally. We don't know if that seduction was sexual as well, and I'm not sure it is important for us to know.
The revelation completes the picture for us of a man who felt betrayed, injured by one he loved, ashamed at how far he went from rational thought and behavior, how far he really was from what he thought he was.
The up shot is that we now know more completely Dumbledore's motivations for fighting Dark Wizards--his shame at his own tangential contribution to Grindelwald's career, his reluctance to fight him, and, when Voldemort rose, his determination to not to repeat his prior mistake of inaction and to fight Voldemort from the start.
So in summery, It was part of the way JKR viewed Dumbledore and understood him. I don't think it was something that would have come out voluntarily--more likely something that would have made a scholarly article 50 or 60 years from now after she was gone and literary scholars had access to her full notes (assuming she left them to be investigated).
BTW, there is some inkling of this in DH, where Rita Skeeter talks about devoting a chapter in her book about Dumbledore to the Dumbledore/Harry relationship. This is not to say that there was anything improper--but that JKR did put out a hint.
