He/she was an aristocrat. Hi/her whole family were dragged from their palatial home by a screaming mob of unwashed peasants and thrown into a filthy, rat -infested dungeon. The next day, they were hauled in front of a Committee of Public Safety and condemned to death. Each one, father, mother, child had their hands bound behind them and was thrust into the tumbril, the wooden cart tthat was to take them to the guillotine. As they drove through the strees they were pelted with refuse as the crowd screamed for their deaths.Finally they reached the dreaded machine. Each one was =dragged fom the tumbril, hustled up the steps and laid face down on the board, neck under the blade.. Gazing into the bloodstained basket , each one heard the blade being wound to its full height. The last thing they heard was the swish of the blade as it fell; the last thing they saw was that fithy basket.
