At work I been lumbered with a work experience kid I work for a media company and basically most of my jobs are dun so there is nothing really there for him to do.

But that's not my problem, he is the most annoying person alive he is 15 and a "Mr know it all!!"

I think no one on this plant could handle him I feel sorry for his parents.

For example today I was mucking about with my work mate saying of bebo I was going its bebO! I was acting all posh and he was l going noo!! its bebw! just messing about sort of thing.

next thing you know, this work experience kid throw a book at me saying don't take the mik out of me!!

plus the book went smack in my head, its ok the book was a paper back

the boy is a very strange person, he insults people all the time and he upset a female member of staff say she was ugly "its only his second day"

I looked him dull saying what the hell are you talking about

I thought if you was my own age I would have smacked you out, but instead I told him you are in a adult environment.

my best mate know me and he cooled me down, because I got a short fuse and I think if he did that to me again I would beat him up.

I did see red and I did clench my fist how do you control your temper if a person takes you to that point??.

I like that answer James,

but if someone called you names all day how would you cope with that
I get loads of work experience people and I love teaching people how to use a apple mac and using visual affects.

I wonder how would you react if someone throw a book at you, plus called a female friend ugly, ps she's
gorgeous.

I'd be tempted to say that this child needs some developmental work - something to develop and extend his social skills and perhaps ingrain a little quality customer service - sit the guy down and ask him how he would deal with working at your company with someone who is there TO GAIN work experience.

The next time he decides to broadcast his views to the world - tell him to stop! He has a right to a point of view (it's in the constitution), but sometimes it's a really good idea to bite your tongue - especially where you are creating friction and adding stress in an industry that is already pretty highly stressed.

TELL HIM YOU WANT TO HELP HIM!!! That while he is with you, he has to curb his enthusiasm and stop and think of the people he's working with - These are the same people who can help him achieve his career goal. He will eventually go back to school - you (for your sins) must remain and work at this company. He can find other work-experience - you have to pick up the pieces.

Give it a day or two after this talk, if he doesn't listen (and I'm unsure if he's mature enough to take good advice) then tell your boss!

This kid sounds to be a seriously disruptive influence on you and fellow staff members. If you explain that he's affecting deadlines when you have to constantly remind him to behave appropriately, that might prompt some managerial action.

In situations where someone on a work experience program is costing the company money (or has the potential to cost the company money) - with no obvious return for the company - that person will typically be told to graze elsewhere.

Yeah, all those answers sound real fun...good job guys.
what the kid may be looking for, is an adult that may actually take an interest in him. Ya know, like a ROLE-MODEL. Take the dude under your wing and actually take the time to help him out. If he's really THAT big of a pain-in-the- a**, maybe nobody has tried to get to know the bast**d. Ya never know, you might get his attention and respect. Who know's, maybe a couple weeks down the line, maybe he can help ya out a little and make your life at work easier. Find something that he's interested in and get him fired-up about it. You never know where the little prick comes from, maybe he just needs a little self-confidence and the motivation to move ahead and do something with his life.

Talk to your boss. That's step 1. Ask if s/he can switch the kid to someone else (or another planet). If that doesn't work out, be SO nice to the kid, that he gets freaked out. He'll be thinking you're trying some trick on him. Then he becomes scared and (hopefully) leaves you and your co-workers alone. As for the insults, DO NOT reply. Ignore them. If the dude yells at you, ask 'Did you say something?' and then turn away. I know 4 kids exactly like that. All this info works for them. Hopefully, it works for you, too. Best of Luck (literally) and Peace Out.

You should tell the kid that that is NOT how things are done in the place in which you work. Teenage antics may work at school, but there is no place for them in the real world. Tell him that if he keeps at it, he is going to have a very rude awakening when he gets there.

I know its easier said than done, so best of luck! But since he's just work experience, how easy would it be to simply say that its not going to work and fire him?

No. It is too dangerous. There were not as many cars when we were growing up, or other laws. We did not even have a car until my brother bought an old one that had to be cranked, so I rode the bus almost everywhere or walked. We had no seat belts or air conditioning either. My husband and I drove to California in a VW Bug with no air conditioning or seat belts when he was in the Air Force assigned there, and we lived on the East Coast. We had everything we owned under our feet. That Mojave Desert was terrible.

Why don't you just tell your boss that your current projects are complete and since you are 'inbetween' things to do you would think it would be best for the kid to work with somebody who is doing more so he can get a real feel for the company.

If you have an HR department use it to file a complaint that he is annoying you and you don't want to work with him....maybe someone else has complained also and he will be asked to quit or get fired.
