at my nursing school asked another student how old she was and then told her she was too old to be in the program. I don't know exactly how old the student is (and I don't think it matters). I am also an older student. I can't make this instructor mad, she grades my clinical activities. What do you think I should say if she asks me the same thing? Do you think I should speak to my class instructor (also the program chairman) if she does, or go right to the Dean of the school? OR should I go to the President of the school?

The previous answers are correct in saying the question is out of line and is potentially illegal. But if you get asked, try first to be unruffled about it.

I'd put a smile on my face and answer something like "old enough to know that I'm serious about this program and excited about working in this field." Only if questioning persists would I make an issue of it.

Good luck! The world needs more good nurses.

It is 100% illegal for them to ask you your age in that context. Your age has nothing to do with your performance or job or education. Take it to the DEAN of the school and report the professor, they may not get fired but they will be at least told to watch their tongue.

You can smile and say "Isn't that an illegal question?"
