Right now I am looking at buying a 350 V8 that was pulled from a 1970 Corvette. However, I would like to know what I am getting myself into before I throw some money down towards that engine. I know that it won't be simple, but I have no clue what exactly would need changed. Oh and the V6 is a TBI. Thank you and I appreciate your advise.

you need a motor from a later model than your monte carlo (engine made later than '86) with all the emmissions gear still in place. this means it will pass any emissions test.
you'll also need a gearbox, mounts for the engine and box, tailshaft, speedo cable, clutch and pressure plate, diff, brakes from a v8 monte carlo, raditator, and a fair deal of stuffing around to get all the odds and sods to fit up.

best idea i've found is to get a rooted v8 model and just transfer all the running gear across

Engine mounts for a V8, bigger radiator and shroud, V8 exhaust, some custom work to adapt the wiring to the 350, V8 brackets to mount the alternator, power steering pump, etc. Tranny might live if you don't abuse it much. Different front springs and sway bar for the added weight would be nice but not absolutely necessary. Biggest can of worms will be getting the computer to work with the 350 unless you don't worry about using the computer. A wrecked 83-88 SS Monte will give you most of the parts you'll need. They came with a 305.

I don't know if its the same there or not but I have a 74 350 in a '81 el camino and the emisons are set for the engine year not the car year. For the engines i think a 350 should be able to fit any 350 enigne mount you just need new engine mounts for the 350.(might want to check before you buy) Theres lots of 350 montes out there so you should be able to find your info.
